My Mosaic DRESS Workshop

In this mosaic dress workshop at HACIENDA MOSAICO, students will tap into their inner creative expression, and mosaic their own personal rendition of an artful ½ dress, a keepsake that hangs flush on the wall as art. Spiritual or whimsical, students will put their own artistic spin onto a one of a kind, fabulous mosaic dress. I will supply students with the one-sided dress form, adhesives, tiles, glass and loads more!
Students will learn, using a glass wheel cutter (as easy as a pair of scissors!) how to precisely cut fine china and then glue it back together again to create borders and central images. Many types of materials such as: beads, jewelry, ceramic flowers, findings and embellishments can be incorporated.
Just a short taxi ride away from the Hacienda, is Puerto Vallarta’s shopping district and curio shops, where a walking excursion can offer up many unusual findings, beads, trims, costume jewelry and embellishments to bring back to the studio for setting into our mosaics. First start at home gathering your own personal treasures to incorporate into your piece. The possibilities are endless, just bring your creativity, the materials you have collected and I will guide you gently through my simple process.
Bio: “As an artist and passionate collector, I adore shopping at flea markets and antique malls. It is in that search for the perfect object that my mosaic inspiration begins. When I discover a discarded treasure that I can re-work into something beautiful my spirit soars. My palette is antique china, stained glass, figurines, tiles, and gem stones. Growing up on a farm in Ohio I cherished the many hours I spent working in the tool shed. When I combine my woodworking skills with a layering technique inspired by the Tramp Artists, a unique style is born.
My years as a New York City costume designer taught me how to use colors, patterns and textures to tell compelling stories that evoke different times and places throughout history. What is most unique about my mosaic style is that I honor the integrity and history of each piece of china by carefully cutting and then placing the patterns back together. My true creative desire is to inspire through the unique telling of spiritual stories.”
