I recently came across David Haun’s fabulous Lake Patzcuaro blog. The Lake Patzcuaro area is a very unique and interesting part of Mexico. Each indigenous Purepecha (Tarascan) village is home to talented craftsmen and women that create folk arts and crafts unique to their town. In the villages you will find Catrina dolls, copper goods, colourful Diablos, carved masks, imaginative pottery, embroidered textiles, whimsical furniture, handcrafted guitars – and much more!
Don’t miss Capula’s Women’s Craft Market, Santa Clara del Cobre’s annual copper festival, Erongaricuaro’s annual International Music Festival, , Morelia’s fabulous pink stone Baroque architecture, the Tzintzuntzan ruins, the Sevillanas Candy Factory, the celebrated Danza de los Vejitos (Dance of the Old Men) and the traditional song, music, cuisine and fiestas associated with this fascinating corner of Mexico.
