Jose Baldi, born in Tepotzotlan, Mexico in 1964, is a contemporary, self-taught, modern-Impressionistic artist. Jose won several awards during his young school days. Tepotzotlan has been a major influence on Jose’s art career. His early works depicting the legacy of the former Jesuit College and the façade of St. Francisco Xavier Church speak of nostalgia for old Tepotzotlan.
Jose studied architecture at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Mexico DF, and was commissioned in 1989 to create a frescoe for Tepotzotlan’s El Granero restaurant. Today you can still enjoy a meal at El Granero and admire the spectacular mural.
The name Jose Bardi quickly became a familiar name in Mexico’s art world and he had his first show at the sought-after Alberto Misrachi Galeria, Mexico City, after which the “Justo Sierra” College, Mexico City, commissioned him to create three murals. During this time period, he also worked with Herminia Calvillo, Architect, Bagatella, SA, Home-Décor Firm and created artworks for famed Mexico City restaurants Grupo BGM Salute! and La Casa del Pastor, dining establishments in Miami, Singapore, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Puerto Vallarta, Pachuca, Cancun , Playa del Carmen, and the California Pizza Kitchen restaurant ‘chain’.
Jose’s work is proudly displayed in Jesus Savior of the World Church, Cuautitlan, Izcalli, Mexico, and Nuestra Sra. Del Refugio, a new chapel in Tepotzotlan, Mexico.
In 2005, Jose was commissioned by the popular Vallarta restaurant “Trio” after which he opened his own gallery in Marina Vallarta. Unfortunately, due to a personal emergency, he had to close the gallery a few months after it opened.
Jose has received international acclaim. Over 1,500 works have made their way into private collections, galleries and museums worldwide. His romantic interpretations of still life, nudes, landscapes, seascapes, urban scenes, real or imaginary, represent a search for nature and freedom that invite the viewer to go deep inside the painting and play. His unique style invites us to admire common place things we look at every day, but don’t really see, in a clear yet dreamy focus.
Jose’s studio and permanent exhibition is currently housed in The Genius of Paco Gallery, Old Town Vallarta.
