I am no stranger to butterflies. My home town is Orillia aka Mariposa – the Sunshine Town – the subject of Stephen Leacock’s novel “Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town”, home of Gordon Lightfoot and the Mariposa Folk Festival. I have had a fascination for butterflies my entire life and am saddened to witness what has been happening to the Mariposa population over the recent decades.
Arturo Meza Gutuirrez, a respected Mexican elder, honored me with the Azteca name Yolohtzin Itzpapalotzin – a Nahuatl word translating loosely to the ‘respected heart of the obsidian butterfly’. The name implies I must live life with an honest heart and be true to everyone and everything that crosses my path – especially Butterflies!
I feel it imperative that I donate my time and energy to a cause that will help the world for generations to come. I am excited that I have the opportunity to help the delicate Monarch butterfly population regenerate so future generations can witness their mysterious annual journey between Canada and Mexico!
I look forward to connecting with international butterfly lovers, environmentalists and people who care about the butterflies as much as I do. At no time in history have we had the opportunity to network this easily – let’s make the most of computer technology and reach out and contribute
A portion of the proceeds of advertising and listings on CanGoMexico will be gifted to the Mariposa Sanctuary in Michoacan.

I am intrigued and inspired by the beauty and freedom of birds and flower. I love to photograph birds and butterflies for the challenge and flowers for their fading beauty.
I have traveled extensively in Canada, the U.S and the Bahamas and lived in many parts of Mexico. I am especially enthusiastic about the peoples, languages, culture, cuisine, history, landscape and traditions of contemporary and pre-Hispanic Mexico. My present project is CanGoMexico.com
