Hacienda Jalisco is located in San Sebastian del Oeste, a scenic 2 hour drive from Puerto Vallarta through the spectacular Sierra Madre mountain range. For generations, the small village of San Sebastian was a thriving mining town but the population has dwindled to around 600.
The Spanish-influenced architecture is intriguing. Hacienda Jalisco is like a step back in time – there’s no phone or electricity – in the evenings oil lamps and candles add a warm glow to the high ceilings and traditional old-world Mexican decor. Hacienda Jalisco is open daily (except Sunday) for tours of the grounds and museum.
The Pamela and Fire suites each have two large rooms, a fireplace, large bathroom and back exit to large patios. The John Huston Suite has a large bathroom and a king-size bed. The spacious, comfortable suites are reminiscent of another era.
Gourmet meals (breakfast and dinner) are prepared by the Chef using organic fruits and vegetables grown in the hacienda gardens. Meals are served on the main patio. Purifed water is available and dietary needs are taken into consideration with advance notice.
Hacienda Jalisco is a popular destination for weddings and honeymoons and can accommodate literary groups and artist or photography retreats/workshops. The hospitable staff will assist you with the details necessary to make your event a success. A chauffeured vehicle or horses are available for hire and Puerto Vallarta pickup can be arranged.
Not much changes in the small town of San Sebastian. The picturesque cobblestone streets, rock and adobe buildings and the Roman Corinthian-inspired Saint Sebastian temple are a good subject for photographers and artists. San Sebastian is known for religious events and festivities.
Many Hollywood celebrities, such as Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, have stayed at Hacienda Jalisco. John Huston was a close friend of expat Bud Acord, the person responsible for renovating and maintaining the property for many years.
Hacienda Jalisco is a place to find peace in nature. No dogs or children under 12 are allowed.
