“Instituto Nacional de Antropologia e History (INAH) is in the process of restoring the murals at BONAMPAK in Room 3 of the Temple of the Murals. These murals were painted in 787 CE to commemorate a victory over the city of Sak ‘Tz’i. The vivid colors of the artists have been brought back to life. The whole task will take 4-5 years. Harsh salts have covered the murals and seismic activity has damaged them. In the process, new figures in the murals were revealed. Three male figures and a solar deity and God N have been uncovered in the paintings. The restoration has revealed some of the secrets of the muralists in creating these colors on limestone walls.
